Perfins on Finnish stampsPerfins from Finland is a rather small chapter.Around the world there are about 50.000 different perfins from ab. 150 postal administrations. On initiative by Joseph Sloper, London, the British Postal Administration allowed firms to perforate stamps with initials in March 1868. Number found in for example England: 18.000; Germany: 12.000, USA: 6.000; Denmark: 1.000; and Finland: 11 A study of the Finnish perfins was made in 1983 containing about 8.000 stamps, shares quoted below refer to this study.
This perfin is known in position Ia and IIIa, and found on m/1889; m/1891; m/1895; and m/1901 issue Cover from FINLAYSON & COMP., TAMMERFORS sent to Ekanäs 30th of October 1899. The 20p stamp of m/1895 is with F&CO perfin.
This perfin has been found on m/1889; m/1891; m/1895; and m/1901 issue PAQUEBOT postmarked cover sent per steamer from Hangö to Copenhagen arrived 31.12.1900. 10 kop ring-type stamp with K.B. perfin Very late use:Friend found this pair with K.B. perfin. The stamps are postmarked HANGÖ 28.I.3(?) do you know of similar items ?

This perfin has been found on m/1901(1 Mark) m/1911; m/1917; m/1918 and on the Russian 1909 issue Cover sent from Försäkringsanstalten Sampo in Turku 27th of January 1916 to Myllykoski. The cover is censored at Viipuri. Franking is a 5 pen m/1911 stamp with S. pos Ia perfin and a 20 pen m/1911 with S. position IIIa perfin.
This perfin has been found on m/1901(1 Mark); m/1911; m/1917; m/1930* and on the Russian 1909 issue Postcard sent from ASEA Helsinki 2.VII.14 to Forsby. Card is franked with pair of 5 pen m/1911 with tête-bêche perfin (Ia and IIIb). This is the only horizontal ASEA perfin I have seen on small size stamps. Cover sent from ASEA Helsinki 30.VI.15 to Raumo, arrived 1.VII.15. Franked with a 5 and a 20 pen m/1911 stamp with ASEA perfin (IIa and IVa). On front Raumo censormark no. 3 40 pen Saarinen stamp perforated twice with ASEA perfin (position IIb and IVb) Stamps with only part of the perfin can also be found - especially FORD perfin.

Here I show only II a&b and IV a&b. Parcel card sent from Ford Motor Company of Finland O/Y, Helsinki 3.XII.30 to Lahti. The stamp is perforated FORD position IIIa
No postal items known with this perfin and as far as I know only found on 10M (Lake Saimaa) and 25M (Woodcutter) W position I - front and back. W position I on a 25M Woodcutter stamp These items have been spotted on eBay - position III and IV. A position III W perfin with perfect Käkisalmi postmark - and a fake ZEPPELIN overprint, what a waste of a unique stamp! I include the following to complete the chaptor, though they really do not belong here: Danish perfin FT (DPS no. F.52) has been found on a Finnish m/1930 stamp Franck & Tobiesen (Danish shipping Co.) had routes in the 1930'ties including calls to the Finnish ports of Helsinki and Turku (Åbo). The stamp shown here is Danish A mint copy of a Finnish stamp with perfin Å&Å is know. This perforation was used by the Swedish publisher Åhlen & Åkerlund Forlag in Stockholm. This company was known to accept stamps as payment. Aerogram from ABOEX 84 stamp exhibition in Turku. Similar found from exhibition in 1989. I placed a piece of red paper inside the aerogram before scanning to show the perfin.
